Norton House handover
It was good to hand over to Norton House*, at our June 2014 meeting, the beautiful items which our members had lovingly crafted, and to know how much they will be appreciated. Mike Turner gave us a very clear and sometimes poignant insight into the work carried out there, especially when he told us about some of the injured service personnel and their families. Some of the items made can be seen below.
*Norton House is a SSAFA (Lifelong support for our forces and their families) house in Headley, Surrey.
SSAFA is a National Charity which provides a variety of services to serving and ex service personnel of the Army, Navy, Royal Air Force and their families. These services include Norton Houses, the one in Headley, Surrey near Headley Court which is a rehab unit for injured service personnel and another near Selly Oak in Birmingham where the hospital has a specialist unit for injured service personnel from conflict areas. People can go for periods of time to Norton Houses so that families can be together in a family environment while treatment and rehabilitation is going on.
