On 11th September, 2015, Kent Gate District WIs went to West Sussex to celebrate 100 years of WI in England. Our target destination was Charlton, where the first English WI - Singleton and East Dean - was founded. It was set up in a room in a pub, The Fox Goes Free.
In the morning we went to Chichester where we had an hour or two to explore the beautiful city, cathedral and gardens, then at lunchtime we headed to the obvious place, The Fox Goes Free, where we were booked in for a group lunch. Fish and chips for some, ploughman's for others, the odd glass of wine, and good company made a very pleasant interlude. The kindly host obliged by taking some group pictures of us as we came out of the pub.
After lunch we headed to Fishbourne Roman Palace where we had an hour and a half to look round, with a guided tour showing us the wonderful mosaics which they have excavated.
A lovely day altogether with a bit of everything. Some pictures from the day are below.
